Volksrust is a town situated in Mpumalanga province. The name Volksrust in Afrikaans means; 'the nation rests' and is attributed to Dorie de Jager, Dirkie Uys' sister. The town became a municipality in 1904, close to the border with KwaZulu- Natal border and within the Pixley ka Seme Local Municipality. It is a commercial centre of agriculture and the main economic drive are crops such as maize, sorghum, sunflower seed, beef and dairy. The town is situated close to Majuba electricity power station, which improved the importance of this town. Volksrust has natural attractions such as streams, mountains and birdlife. There is no tourism office in the town, but the visitors can contact the Pixley ka Seme Local Municipality.
