There are 7 different trails, varying in length from 34 to 100km, and would take 6 - 8 hours to complete. Trails are suitable for a soft-roader (a vehicle without low range), low range gears are required to complete the trails, vehicles need good ground clearance, trail guides are available, but not obligatory, rescue services are available, GPS waypoints are available, quad bikes are welcome, camping facilities and covered accommodation is available, food/catering is available or there is a shop with supplies. The longest trail is the 3 Provinces 4x4 Trail, the meeting point is on top of a 90m high cliff, called Langkrans, at 2 253m above sea level. One such obstacle is 'Helshoogte', a 300m long steep incline that rises roughly 100m in altitude from top to bottom. The first main obstacle on the 3 Provinces trail, a short rocky climb up the mountain, will give you a good idea of what the rest of the route has in store for you. The difficulty of the route has been rated by Drive-Out Magazine as a 3-4 out of 5, however some obstacles have a 5 rating. Only experienced drivers with a very capable 4x4 vehicle (front and rear diff locks as well as extra high ground clearance) should attempt this obstacle. The route is 34km in length and will take 4 – 6 hours to complete. Pannetjies Pass 4x4 Trail, it winds its way up the side of the mountain with breathtaking views along the way, with only a few minor obstacles en-route to the top. Trail. We are excited to announce our new short route to the 3 Provinces Beacon. This is the easiest 4x4 trail and is ideal for anyone new to 4x4ing to drive on their own. This is the quickest way up to the top of Langkrans for an awesome sundowner or a night drive. Shorts trails like the Tierkloof 4x4 trail and Bobbejaankrans 4x4 Trail are short but challenging, with a few interesting obstacles. Tierkloof is 8km in length but takes about 2 – 3 hours to complete and Bobbejaankrans is only 5km in length and takes just 1 - 2 hours to complete. It is ideal for a quick morning or afternoon drive. Walletjiestraat 4x4 Trail is another of the trails with a steep drive down into a ravine and drive upstream, navigating sharp turns, a muddy axle-twister and a small log bridge before climbing out on the other side. It is only about 1km in length, and if you are lucky, it should take only 30minutes to complete. If you get stuck though, it could take a while... There are 2 guided-only trails the Tierkloof Extreme 4x4 Trail and Battlefield History Trail. At the end of the day, Three Provinces are about the surroundings and country living. Accommodation options include a farmhouse, guesthouse, or campsite. Overnight accommodation is available in the two-bedroom farmhouse, which sleeps six and offers catering, or in one of two self-catering guesthouses, which sleep six and twenty respectively. The campsite at the foot of a cliff has hot water but no electricity.
