Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth) is also often called 'The Bay' (Die Baai), 'The Friendly City', 'The Windy City' or shortened to just PE. In 2021, it was renamed to Gqeberha. In 1799, Fort Frederick was built, named after the Duke of York. This monument now overlooks the city of PE, which was first founded as a town in 1820 to house British settlers. The city was one of the venues during the 2010 Soccer World Cup.
