Mdantsane is a township located between East London and King Williams Town in Buffalo Municipality of Eastern province of South Africa. This town is of historical significance as the birth place of the Nelson Mandela and is a satellite of East London town. This is the second largest township in South Africa after Soweto. The town dates back to 1960s as a dormitory residential township, housing black residents that were forcibly removed from centrally located areas of the East Bank and West Bank. The residential houses are a mixture of formal and informal housing structures, a characteristic of most African townships. Though the road infrastructure is well developed, there are challenges in the maintenance of the facilities still leave a lot to be desired.
