Lying on the opposite side of Keurbooms River from Plettenberg Bay, Keurboomstrand lies on a beautiful stretch of the Garden Route. The word 'keurboom' comes from the local Keurboom tree or choice tree (Virgilia oroboides), which flowers during August, September and December, with lilac coloured blooms. Keurboomstrand lies just below a mountain populated with an abundance of trees, its beaches are beautiful and the ocean water warm. It is within easy distance to some wonderful locations, including the Tsitsikamma forest, Nature's Valley and the Storms River mouth. The Keurbooms River meets the Bitou River to form a lagoon with its own island, and is a location teaming with fun activities such as skiing, fishing and boat cruises where one can explore the river in a canoe. Hiking is another activity in the area, and Keurbooms River Nature Reserve has a few trails to offer. It is also highly popular for camping, fishing and swimming.
