Bird watching is popular, with the emphasis on water birds like moorhen, fish eagles and black eagles. There's a variety of flora and fauna and typical succulent Karoo plants. This route presents a variety of challenges as it crosses different landscapes, from crossing dry riverbeds with a few big stones and puddles of water in winter, to climbing hills for extraordinary views over the Langeberge and Montagu valley. Enjoy a braai on the mountain or go for a hike before descending into gullies and valleys on your way back. There are two fully equipped self-catering chalets or B&B. Basic camping, with equipment available if required for accommodation. Visit old battle sites, or try hiking, rock climbing, horse riding.
