Route 62 all the way from the Western Cape to the Eastern Cape through the Klein Karoo is a popular tourist route with many interesting little shops and farm stalls on the way. It is an area of true beauty with magnificent mountain passes, cliffs, crystal clear streams, orchards and landscapes. There are plenty of little towns dotted along the way; these include charming little places like Montagu, Bonnievale, Worcester, Riversdale to Ladismith and Oudtshoorn. Oudtshoorn is the centre of the Klein Karoo. Visit the wineries, game farms, tribal art and museums along the way or spend a day hiking, horse riding, fishing or for something totally different an ostrich ride in the Klein Karoo. This region has the famous Klein Karoo Wine Route considered one of the diverse of South Africa’s wine regions and stretches along the Cape Route 62 from Montagu in the west to the Langkloof in the East. This region produces one of the best wines as the climate is generally drier than other wine route region resulting in healthy vineyards which are grown organically to a large extent. Beside the wineries there are great places where visitors can enjoy meals made from fresh ingredients often complimented by a the variety of wines found in this area. This region is also referred to as the "Feather Capital" of South Africa known for Ostrich-farming with the town of Oudtshoorn being the main Ostrich farming area. This region also have some of the best MTB trails in South Africa with the likes of Cango MTB Trails, Cango MTB Trails, Williamsburg Mountain Reserve MTB Route, Swartberg Pass and Die Hel and Buffelspoort MTB Trail to mention just a few.
