Built in 1937 by the United Transkeian Territories General Council and named after the very popular local magistrate at the time, Robert Fyfe-King, the Fyfe King Bridge was severely damaged by flooding in May 1959. The bridge was replaced in 1960 by a larger, higher bridge, in 1960, a few hundred meters downstream from the old bridge.
