This excellent birding venue lies north of Bulawayo and includes irrigated pastures, croplands, a stretch of acacia woodland, small eucalyptus stands and two dams including the large Upper Umgusa, on the dam there are generally 3-4 thousand duck, geese and waders. Aiselby supports a large variety of birds, numbering in excess of 400 species. The best time to visit Aiselby is in summer, particularly after rain. Bird Sanctuary. This farming area includes one of the water and sewerage reticulation plants for the city. Travelling the 12km from the city centre to this rich birding area is well worth it. The farm habitat is mixed, composed of some sewage ponds, irrigated pastures, irrigated and ‘dry’ land cropping lands, acacia scrub, mixed woodland, exotic plantations such as eucalyptus, wetlands, muddy puddles and the Upper Umgusa Dam.
