Sheltered by enclosing hills, in a natural basin, lies a wonderful bushveld retreat, Thabaphaswa Mountain Retreat. 'Thabaphaswa', in the local dialect, means 'the mountain of the black and white bull' - a well-known landmark to the inhabitants and tribes in the area. It describes the coloured patterns of the indigenous Nguni cattle. The Thabaphaswa mountain towers over the adjacent hills. The network of hiking, mountain biking and 4 X 4 trails, offers the ideal opportunity for nature lovers to discover the variety of game, bird and plant life of the area. The beautiful scenery are complemented by the design of the overnight camps which are camouflaged between the big boulders on the farm which blend into the mountain landscape. All the sites nestle under beautiful trees that offer sufficient shade for two 4 X 4 vehicles with rooftop tents or 4 X 4 trailers or caravans. There is an additional flush toilet at the sites and hot water showers at Thabaphaswa Campsite. Visitors can also arrange for camp showers to be supplied. (Nov-13).
