The Port Alfred Store has a liquor department. Pick n Pay was founded in 1967 as a family controlled business with only four small stores in the Western Cape. Today the Pick n Pay Group is one of Africa's largest retailers of food, general merchandise and clothing, with 775 stores, made up of Hypermarkets, Supermarkets and Family Stores, and all of these employ a total of 38 000 people.
