The Austin Roberts Bird Sanctuary is located in Muckleneuk, Tshwane. The sanctuary is named after, J Austin Roberts, an ornithologist-mammal-gist, who was born in Pretoria (Tshwane) in 1883. The sanctuary was first opened in 1956 as a Nature Reserve. Now it is declared a Bird Sanctuary, and also a World Heritage Site. They have 170 native bird species recorded so far including the crowned crane and the blue crane. (Jun-18)
