During a storm in August 2023, both electric cables and water pipes running to the reserve were destroyed, and the reserve is temporarily closed. Please confirm with the park if it has reopened, and inform us via newdata@tracks4africa.co.za The 772ha Hluleka is situated along the former Transkei Coast in the district of Ngqeleni, and was formerly the old Strachan's grant farm. It also includes the coastal area and Congwane Mtombo forest reserve and Ndabeni Hluleka forest reserve. The reserve is a combination of rocky coastline with beautiful beaches, indigenous forest and lushy grassland. The reserve is best accessible using a vehicle with high ground clearance as the roads are still very bad. Accommodation available are in self-catering, stylish chalets. Cellphone reception is available but limited. There are no shops around, so stock up on food in Mthatha. (Oct-23).
