Die Bergvenster & Philip's Tunnel (1843-44)

Philip and his laborers started digging the tunnel in 1843 and within little more than a year, they had completed a tunnel of 228m long. It has been declared a national monument and with a commemoration plaque. The tunnel is no longer in use. The climb up to the tunnel is steep and slippery, on a narrow path. Not for the infirm.
